La Liga Preview Real Madrid vs Alaves

Alaves Vs Real Madrid
After gaining promotion to the La Liga Santander, Alaves quickly found their feet to this new challenge after forcing Atletico Madrid to a draw at the Vincente Calderon and also beating the defending champion Barcelona at the Camp Nou earlier this season, they have had an inconsistent performance so far. Alaves are winless in their last three (3) games as they sit on 13th position with just 10points after Match-Day 9. Alaves will try to get points off the table toppers Real Madrid as they face off this weekend at the Estadio Mendizorroza.
Real Madrid will look to continue their goal-scoring form when they face Alaves this weekend. Real are huge favourites to win this game as they have a far better squad than their opponent. This is a ‘David Vs Goliath’ clash with ‘Goliath’ looking to claim the Victory. In Football anything can happen but with the way both teams are performing presently it’s hard to see Alaves getting any point off this game.
TEAM NEWS
Alaves will be without their star player Marcos Llorente who is ineligible for this game as he was gotten on-loan this summer from Real Madrid, but Alaves will look on to their bench to get a suitable replacement and provide a strong team to face Real.
Real Madrid will be without injured Ramos, Casemiro and Modric with Cavajal also suspended for this clash. News coming from Madrid suggests that Zidaine could bench Ronaldo for this game as the star man have failed to find his goal scoring boots this season scoring just once in their last five league games, with the young stars Morata, Asensio and Vasquez scoring 13goals this season with limited game time and the BBC scoring just 12goals who are first choice. Zidaine was quoted saying ‘I am not going to be unfair about it, but yes, I have to take decisions. I try to do what is best for everyone, tomorrow you will see who plays’.
PROBABLE LINE-UP
Alaves: Pacheco,Alexis,Victor,Raul,Kiko,Carlos,DaniTorres,Katai,Camarasca,Edgar,Deyverson.

Preview: Atletico Madrid Vs Malaga

This Saturday 29th October 2016, An Atlético Madrid hurting in their pride will measure forces with a motivated Málaga at Estadio Vicente Calderón for Round 10 of the Spanish Liga Santander.
After hammering Granada by 7-1 and getting a narrow win against Rostov in the Uefa Champions League, Atletico Madrid has failed to extend their excellent form as they fell to Sevilla by 0-1 after their eleven (11) game unbeaten run. Nothing seemed to go Atletico Madrid’s favor that night as they lost possession easily, failed to create clear cut chances and were ripped apart by the fast counter-attack by Sevilla which resulted in a goal by Steven N’Zonzi, 20min before the end of the game.
Nevertheless this time they are facing a motivated Malaga side, this is not going to be an easy encounter .With Simeone in charge, Atletico have lost just one league game against Malaga (W5 D4).

The Spanish International Koke, who picked up a red card last time out, will miss the upcoming match due to suspension. Augusto Fernandez will also miss out because of a long term knee injury, while Gimenez, who is still recovering from a hamstring problem, remains in doubt for this clash.

As for Malaga, the Andalusian outfit, are currently going through a good moment of form
and have not been defeated in their last three games. After a home win over Athletic Bilbao and a 1-1draw against Alaves, Malaga completely hammered La Liga newcomers Leganes by 4-0. They have pulled off an extremely solid performance to grab their third win in nine matches so far this season and will surely take that to cause Atlético Madrid problems when they lock horns.

Antoine Griezmann has scored 3 goals in 4 appearances against malaga while Kevin Gamiero scored 4 goals, his favourite La Liga side, Also Fernando Torres has  scored more La Liga goals at El Calderon versus any other side (four alongside Barcelona) . Malaga is the Liga side with most lost balls this season, an average of 173.89 per game, Atletico will look to capitalize on it.

Sevilla FC the new title contenders

Sevilla has started the season in fine form, second placed in the LaLiga just one (1) point behind Real Madrid. Sevilla are also joint toppers with Juventus in the Champion’s league, Group H.  They started this season losing to Real Madrid and Barcelona in Uefa Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup respectively. But when the league started, playing just nine (9) games they have won six (6) already, drawing twice and losing just once.  In the UCL, Sevilla in just 3 games, won 2 games, drawing once and they are on course to qualifying for the round of 16 hopefully as group leaders.

After the departure of Unai Emry who won the Europa League three (3) times back-back, the Sevilla faithful were hoping the club gets a replacement that will suit their play but the board decided to go for Jorge Sampoli, who was unveiled as the new coach. Jorge coaching Sevilla which is his first top flight job in club football having previously led Chile to the Copa America beating a Messi-led Argentina team in the final. With Jorge singing a bulk loads of players in the summer which also saw key players leave like Gameiro, Krychowiak, Konoplyanka and loads of others the best was yet to come.
Jorge’s Sevilla lost two cup finals to the two heavy weights of Spanish and European Football in Barcelona and Real Madrid, but have since then being on the rise losing just once in twelve games played so far this season. They also have a 100% home record this season, Last Sunday they ended the unbeaten run of 11games of Atletico Madrid at home. They play another home game in 2 weeks against Barcelona and they will be looking to take all the three points in the encounter. Before then, they take on Sporting away in the league and Dinamo Zagreb at home in the UCL.
With everything Sevilla has achieved so far this season, it’s still a long shot to say that they are strong title contenders, like other teams in the past who just have initial Gra-Gra (struggle) but fade out as the season progresses. I think Sevilla are strong title contender mainly because of how the top teams have dropped too much point’s already this season and it will likely continue.  Sevilla also has a lot of strength in depth which will be crucial as they play the UCL and Copa Del Ray this season. Jorge will be looking to win a title in his first season with the club but it’s more likely to be the Cup but that is yet to be seen as no games have been played yet.
Personally, I think Jorge should focus on reaching realistic targets and not set impossible targets for himself and his team. Yes, it’s true that they can win any of the competition they participate in this season but they cannot win it all. I think Jorge will be satisfied with a Top 4 finish in the league, Quater or Semi-final finish (if lucky with opposition) and probably winning or being finalist in the Copa Del Ray.
Still, all those achievement are easier said than done, but I think the players have enough mental and physical strength to make all this possible not just because of their start to the season but because of their performances in every match they’ve played so far.
The Sevilla fans and the followers of Spanish league will hope to have a four horse race for the title this season (involving Real,Atletico,Barca,Sevilla ) and will also like to see an all Spanish UCL semi-final.

Monday 24 October 2016

Do not provoke the GOD. Barca wins at last.

And it was all going so well …
Possession stats in the 70s, the ball pinging around in midfield, Barça attacking, Valencia defending, Barça resetting, Valencia defending again. Everything was headed toward the inexorable conclusion until something horrible happened.
Iniesta took a tackle of the type that players take all the time. Enzo Perez got the ball but came through the man to do so. In 99 of 100 of those challenges, the player gets up. Today was the hundredth, and Iniesta signalled to the bench as soon as he went down. Even he knew.
There was excoriation for the Valencia player but in reality, there wasn’t malice. It was a hard challenge, but not a butcher’s challenge. The bad luck was that Iniesta’s foot was planted and that was the leg that Perez hit after getting the ball. Dani Alves, in the Juventus/Milan match, laid an almost identical challenge on an attacker, who went down, grumbled a bit then got up to resume play.
What happened in the aftermath of Iniesta being stretchered off is a link went missing. When Rakitic entered the fray, the midfield was Busquets/Gomes/Rakitic. Absent was the associative kind of midfielder, that shuttle player like Iniesta, who can flit about the pitch with the ball to make space. What remained were a bunch of incomplete URLs, and Valencia took advantage.
Compounding matters is that the precise players needed for those roles were watching from the stands, as both Arda Turan and Rafinha were injured, and things were still a bit raw for Denis Suarez. The result wasn’t that midfield control was lost, but rather that open links weren’t closed as players who weren’t used to a certain job were forced to perform it. Injuries can come at good or bad times. Having a trio of creative mids all injured at the same time is luck of the worst kind.
Passes got longer, runs with the ball proliferated as the Barça attackers had to close the links somehow. This increased the danger because every lost ball meant a Valencia counter, and a man moving with the ball is less secure than a pass to an open teammate. Valencia began to find its way into the match, and then Messi happened, with a goal that will be controversial.
He took possession just outside the Valencia box, and fired past Diego Alves, who immediately ran to the referee to complain about Luis Suarez, who was in an offside position. Some contend that the FIFA “clarification” of the offside rule means that as long as Suarez didn’t make contact with the ball, he can’t be interfering. But the FIFA rules clearly state that interfering with an opponent can also be “preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball. For example, by clearly obstructing the goalkeeper’s line of vision or movement.”
Was Alves able to see around Suarez at the time Messi struck the ball? What is his obligation to move to find clear space? Suarez didn’t make contact with the ball, and Unidamo Mallenco clearly judged Suarez to be a sufficient distance from Alves so as to not clearly obstruct his vision. So the goal stood, and a brilliant goal it was, even if it was also a goal that Alves almost certainly saves if a big Uruguayan wasn’t acting like a duck blind.
The first half ended 0-1, and if things weren’t looking to be completely in control, they were feeling rather comfortable. Barça was having most of the ball and the lead, even if the physical play being allowed by Mallenco made the movement of attackers with the ball rather fraught. The trend this season (again) seems to be to kick Barça off the pitch, with physical, aggressive football. It doesn’t work, until players are actually kicked off the pitch, as in the cases of Pique and Iniesta. Valencia hewed to the current trend with a vigor that at times bordered on recklessness. Mario Gomez went into Gomes, studs up, making full contact with the front of the shin, a clear red card offense that didn’t even get a yellow. Montoya was willfully and wantonly thwacking Neymar about, something else that is all the rage this season, as opponents take advantage of the “He had it coming” worldview to kick the crap out of a player trying to play his game.
When play gets physical and messy, the natural reaction is to close ranks and for everyone to focus a little more intently. Someone forgot to tell Gomes, who lost the ball, then compounded the error by sashaying after his man, Munir El Haddadi, who used the open space to fire past a helpless Ter Stegen for the equalizer.
We can only imagine what Luis Enrique must have been thinking after than goal, because it wasn’t long after that Denis Suarez started warming up. For a team such as Barça that is so vulnerable without the ball and whose game is predicated on having the ball. such lackadaisical play is intolerable. Gomes was clearly and directly at fault for that goal, with sloppy play on one end and lazy play on the other. A player doing his job is never more crucial than in a difficult away stadium with an opponent clawing its way back into the match. Poor play can be a lifeline.
So can poor finishing. Rakitic and Suarez missed excellent opportunities to continue giving Valencia hope. The latter was 1 of 5 on excellent chances, including an open header that he punted over the crossbar. Yes, he made the run, made the play that led to the winning goal. Finish like he’s supposed to and such heroics aren’t necessary. Barça is a great team, but even the best teams have a hard time overcoming sloppiness and inexactitude. Bad decisions kill.
The second Valencia goal came from another poor decision as Digne, who had plenty of time to play the ball to feet and make the secure pass, headed it away. It fell directly to Valencia, who wasted no time as Nani laid in a perfect pass that was struck home for a 2-1 lead, and a berserk Mestalla.
Suddenly Valencia players were everywhere and Barça looked a mess. Did the Iniesta injury affect the team psychologically as well as tactically is a question only the players can answer, but salvation came in the form of a set piece. A perfect ball found the head of Rakitic, whose header was parried away by Alves directly to Suarez, who smashed home from an acute angle. Just as suddenly as it was 0-1, it was 2-2, but Valencia kept coming with a fantastic chance — only the selfishness of Nani and the determination of Sergi Roberto saved a third goal.
The match settled into a familiar pattern: Barça possession and probing, Valencia with the lightning counter. Rinse, repeat. And with only two minutes of added time, things looked set for a draw when one last run was the one. As noted previously, Barça just keeps doing what it does, daring you stop it one more time, to muster one more effort. An exquisite, high-speed interplay between Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez put the Uruguayan in perfect position in the box.
Valencia, given the match Suarez was having, would have been better off letting him shoot. But Aymen Abdennour, a sub at LB who had a brilliant match, cleared Suarez out. It was a sure penalty. Messi stepped to the spot, and drove home just under the hand of Alves, the penalty stopping specialist, who guessed right but was a fraction too late.
The players celebrated, and some savage Valencia supporter threw a bottle at the embracing pack, a stupid, reckless act that unleashed Messi, who strode toward the Valencia supporters, hurling verbal invective of the likes never before seen from him. Ever. His face was contorted with rage, righteous indignation and exultation, and it was glorious.
This was also a champion’s victory. Teams have a moment where things come together, where something happens that kick starts a fire. Was this it? It was an exceptional win that shouldn’t be marred by an abysmal refereeing performance. This week, Barça completed the comeback, showing the mental toughness and resilience that is a mark of this Luis Enrique team.
Solutions must be found to the aggression of opponents, and how refereeing laxity allows possession to be turned in dangerous areas. After the match, some were again lamenting about how Luis Enrique has let the midfield to pot, positional play, blablabla, but here’s something worth considering:
Luis Enrique’s Barça doesn’t play like that, and isn’t going to. So it’s probably worth putting those familiar tropes away, and understanding what this team — THIS team is doing, and how it’s doing it. You can’t hate chocolate ice cream because it isn’t rocky road. It is what it is. Luis Enrique didn’t “let” the midfield go to pot. He has his charges playing in a way that suits the skill sets of the players that he has. What does anyone reckon would have happened to positional play Barça had, say, Xavi, Iniesta and Keita been injured? Who remembers the chaos of matches that was quelled when Xavi entered? Few, apparently.
The Denis Suarez for Gomes substitution was excellent because it restored that linking player to the midfield and let Barça back into the match. Suarez was also more capable tracking back, and putting Valencia’s defense on the back foot with his movement and aggression with the ball.
It’s difficult to be calm and neutral in the face of such a match, that had me trembling for the last ten minutes or so, then giddy, jittery with nervous energy in the wake of the remarkable, last-second heroics. This is a magnificent football team That we have the privilege to enjoy, week after week. What’s next? Who knows, but some there should be some respite as the woeful Granada visit the Camp Nou next week.
Barça lost something when its Captain was struck down. But it might have also gained something significant in a single moment, that might go down in culer lore as the Rage of Messi.

Atletico attacking revolution 2016

This season, we have seen a clear evolution of Atletico Madrid in many aspects of play. The most prominent is the improvement of attacking disposition, mostly when facing an inferior offensive side or one that is ready to give up initiative.

You have heard much about Koke’s new position, which has been the key change to unlocking “Atletico 2.0.” And it is true; the Vallecas midfielder’s move to the middle of the park has allowed Diego Simeone to enter more offensive players in the XI without losing balance and defensive solidity. Los Rojiblancos already were the side with the world’s best defense and they are able now to succeed when seeing much of the ball.

Atletico is a team now that attacks better and with more variety, and this is well-reflected in their forwards’ figures. Antoine Griezmann (currently LaLiga’s top scorer) and Angel Correa have improving their scoring totals with respect to last season at this time, while Fernando Torres presents the same numbers and has been influential as a substitute. At the same time, Kevin Gameiro (3 + 3 in 11 games) has supplied the same amount of goals and assists that Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto provided all of last season (although, let’s face it, that’s not terribly difficult to do).

We need to emphasize Yannick Carrasco’a part of this stage show. Simeone has publicly stated that he requested him to shoot more frequently and has expressed his happiness with the new #10’s improvement. In addition to the quick bursts and the imbalance he cause in rival defensive lines, the Belgian winger has already tied his scoring figures from last season with five goals in only 11 games.

There are still some pieces pending placement into this attacking puzzle. Nico Gaitán, probably the most exciting signing of the summer, has not found his spot in the team so far despite his obvious quality. There are few doubts about this incorporation, as the player was a direct request of El Cholo and watching him play even few minutes is enough to know that he has skills that can supply his manager a good amount of new variations when the time is right. But at this point, the best thing is that the team still leaves one with the feeling of being able to get even better.

Paulo Dybala reveals Juventus rejected €90m bid from Barcelona this summer

Barcelona has finally bought the fourth forward in Paco Alcácer from Valencia for €30mn plus 2mn in variables. But they went every corner to get the world class player as the backup for MSN.

Paulo Dybala was one of the choices for the Catalan Giants as he ended his 2015-16 season at Juventus scoring 23 goals in all competitions and 19 alone in Serie A making him the top scorer of the season for the Italian side.

"Juventus rejected an offer for me and I have to thank Juventus because that mean they believe in me. It is difficult to reject these kinds of offers. I am happy to stay, I am playing in one of the best clubs in the world and if I’d ever decide to leave, it’d be for the club’s good."

"We want to win the Champions League, why shouldn’t we? Winning the world cup with Argentina, however, would be even better, I’d go out of my mind if that even happens.”

Dybala scored 23 goals during his first season in Turin and has notched four goals in all competitions this term.

Juventus are attempting to win Serie A for a record sixth consecutive time.

"When I arrived at Juventus, Pirlo was leaving and I decided to take ‘his’ number 21. I’d always had the number 9 but that belonged to Morata last season. The 21 bring good luck last season, so I’ve decided to keep it. I am honoured to play close to Gonzalo Higuaín."

Dybala also said that the secret for their successes is having experienced players like Buffon, Chiellini and Bonucci and other world-class players. There are stunning players in every position of the pitch.

Preview Barça vs Valencia

After a highly tactical showdown of Thursday night in which Luis Enrique had the upper hand over Pep Guardiola it is time for FC Barcelona to return to La Liga action on Saturday.

While you cannot really say that the team clicked and scored four with the merit of form against City as it was Messi who scored 3 and City had to do away with Bravo after his red..therefor the away clash at Mestalla could be equally important and exciting fixture as it has always been.

For Valencia the team is not on ventilator anymore with an experienced coach Prandelli been appointed who got the team to a winning start against Sporting.

Prandelli "I'll sleep well because I know there's no formula to stop Lionel Messi"

There were two surprising injuries to add to the list for Catalans as Arda and Rafinha also missed out on team squad with small injuries along with Pique,Alba,Cillesen.
It is yet to be seen if Alcacer will start against his former team but he has a chance to come from bench and score his long awaited first Barça goal.

Stay tuned to La Liga Cafe for line-up updates.

Preview FC Barcelona vs Manchester City FC

Barcelona v Man City: UEFA Champions League preview, line-ups & predictions

The Wednesday’s Champions League Group C match of the day awaits one of the high profile encounters when F.C Barcelona play hosts to Manchester City. Pep Guardiola and Claudio Bravo return to their former club. This will be the second time Pep Guardiola will be visiting Camp Nou, with the previous during the 2014/15 Champions League Semi-Final with Bayern Munich. Guardiola won the Champions League as both a player and coach with Barcelona. Yaya Toure is another former Barcelona man, but the Ivorian has been an outcast since Guardiola took over.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City side lie 2 points and a place behind the Catalans following their 3-3 draw with Celtic last time out.

Man City drew for the third successive match on the weekend in a 1-1 draw with Everton. Both Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero had penalties saved in the match.

Barcelona on the other hand cruised to a 4-0 victory on the weekend, with Rafinha bagging a brace, a goal from Suarez and one from Messi just few minutes after coming off the bench for Luis Enrique’s side.

Team news

Barcelona have made a perfect start to their Champions League campaign by winning the first two matches. They started with a 7-0 thrashing of Celtic at home, but were made to sweat hard by the Bundesliga side Monchengladbach in the 2-1 win at Borussia Park. The Blaugrana were a goal down at half-time, until Arda Turan and Gerard Pique scored two quick goals in the second half to bag full points.

Barcelona’s front three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar returned to the pitch together on the weekend, with Lionel Messi coming off the bench.

The trio are all expected to start on Wednesday.

While Manchester City couldn’t back-up their comprehensive 4-0 win on matchday 1 against Gladbach, when they visited Glasgow for the second fixture. The Scots showed their neighbours that they are no pushovers and held the Premier League giants to a 3-3 draw. However, this was always going to be a tough trip against a Celtic side who are unbeaten in all competitions at home.

Sergio Aguero started Saturday’s match from the bench but is sure to start at the Nou Camp. Guardiola fielded a back 3 in a 3-4-3 formation against Everton but is likely to revert to a back 4 for the trip to Spain. Right-back Bacary Sagna missed out on Saturday through injury, meaning Pablo Zabaleta could start at full-back.

Following his goal at the weekend, Nolito could earn a start but Sterling and De Bruyne are likely to be preferred.

Prediction

Barcelona have a strong home record in Champions League and were not beaten in the last 17 matches at Camp Nou since 2013. And 16 of them are wins with the last 12 wins coming in a row. They do not drop any points at this stage of the tournament, even when coming against teams of highest quality.

Manchester City have a good enough squad, but they are yet to get familiar with Pep’s philosophy. They are currently on a three match win-less run in all competitions. After the draw against Celtic, they lost to Tottenham and were held by Everton to a draw. Under the circumstances, it is hard to see them trouble Barcelona at their own backyard.

It promises to be an exciting fixture no matter the outcome.

Predicted line-ups

Barcelona: Ter Stegen, Alba, Pique, Umtiti, Sergi Roberto, Busquets, Rakitic, Iniesta, Neymar, Suarez, Messi

Man City: Bravo, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Kolarov, Clichy, Fernandinho, Gundogan, De Bryune, Silva, Sterling, Aguero

THIS TIME THEY FACE REAL BETIS AT BENITO VILLAMARIN, WHO HAVEN’T LOST IN ANY OF THEIR THREE LEAGUE HOME GAMES (W1 D2) BUT AT THE MEAN TIME THEY FAIL TO WIN AGAINST REAL MADRID SINCE 2012 . A POINT TO NOTE, THE STAR OF MADRID CRISTIANO RONALDO IS WITHOUT GOAL IN HIS LAST THREE GAMES, HIS WORST RUN SINCE OCTOBER 2015 (4).

REAL BETIS SUFFERED SECOND LOSS IN LAST THREE MATCHES AGAINST REAL SOCIEDAD ON SEPTEMBER 30
REAL BETIS ARE ON 15TH POSITION IN THE LEAGUE WHILE REAL MADRID IS ON THE 2ND POSITION BEHIND ATLETICO MADRID THEIR ARCH RIVALS.
